USING TREE SELECTORs
Fast Estimate uses a familiar tree structure for selecting data
tables. These allow you to filter your data into more manageable
groups for viewing and editing by simply expanding and clicking
on the required branch. It works much like Windows Explorer
does for exploring and managing your PC's hard disk.
Most sets of data within Fast Estimate are part of a hierarchy.
The structure is therefore presented here much as the branches
of a tree, where each level has more detail than the previous
level. You can create new branches, delete or modify existing
ones at any time.
Key Features
- Expanded / Collapsed branches are shown with a + or - to the left
of the name (or use right click)
- Where possible, the next two levels of the branch are displayed in
the table area (e.g. Selecting a Library in the tree shows Sections
and Subsections on the table). This offers more information and speeds
selection
- Names cannot be edited in the tree itself. Select the higher level
(usually shown with [Name]) then edit the name in the table
- Trees can be hidden if you need to save screen width
- You cannot add additional levels beyond that set by the program
Create a New branch: Click on the blank row at the bottom of
the currently displayed table and enter the description (or press the
Insert key or use the New button).
Amend an Existing Branch: Double-click to amend the current name
(or F2 key).
Delete a Branch: Use the Delete key or button. Appropriate warnings
are issued for major deletions
Tips
- Names may be upper or lower case (or mixed)
- Use Expand All / Collapse all for speed (right click on tree pane)
